This expansion not only enhances our global presence but also positions us to leverage India's growing role in the future of clinical research.
We spoke with our new General Manager of India, Bharat Doshi, to gain some insights into the new expansion into India and how this enhances our clinical research services.
Q: Can you tell us what you are most looking forward to about leading Advanced Clinical’s new office in India?
A: The timing for opening the new office in India is perfect, given the mature talent pool and the growing interest from sponsors in India and Asia to take their trials global. India’s ecosystem to support Global Capability Centers (GCC) is also at a pivotal point. I am looking forward to combining this with Advanced Clinical’s growth plans and to make the office a grand success for both the business, our Sponsors, and our people.
Q: You have a rich background in establishing CROs in India. How will your past experiences help you in your new role at Advanced Clinical?
A: My previous roles have provided invaluable experience, from building the first SEZ unit for a CRO's data operations to integrating and leading a large pharmacovigilance case processing center. The current business environment is more favorable, and I am committed to applying my learnings to build a successful India operation for Advanced Clinical.
Q: What excites you most about joining the Advanced Clinical team?
A: In my experience so far, Advanced Clinical's team and leaders exemplifies a strong focus on delivering a “better clinical experience”, prioritizing people and their growth, and maintaining an unwavering commitment to quality and delivery. These focus areas align closely with my personal values, making me excited to be part of this team.
Q: Can you share your vision for the Indian office and how it aligns with Advanced Clinical’s overall goals?
A: We are starting the Indian office with Biometric operations and then plan to implement a variety of other clinical development services. My vision is for the Indian office is to become a reliable, complementary operation to Advanced Clinical’s other global offices, ensuring a seamless quality-based customer experience.
Q: How will the new office in Ahmedabad contribute to Advanced Clinical's global objectives?
A: As we’ve seen on numerous occasions across other industries, successfully implemented India offices have always risen beyond their original remit – to become fertile ground for nimble innovations. India's diverse talent pool has consistently demonstrated its capabilities, and I am confident that the office will soon serve as an innovation center for global clients. Additionally, the city of Ahmedabad has a strong ecosystem for clinical research, with world-class educational institutes, a robust business environment, and excellent healthcare facilities that will support Advanced Clinical’s objectives.
Q: Can you tell us about the initial team joining the Indian office in October?
A: The initial team will bring diverse expertise from their educational and professional backgrounds. This initial team includes Data Analysts and Technical Programmers who will be integrated into global teams and work on synchronized global operations.
Q: What advice would you give to companies considering operating in India?
A: India’s business environment has matured exponentially over the past few years. Companies should focus on building a strong matrix organization that leverages India’s strengths in language capabilities, cultural diversity, and a vibrant democracy. I would recommend building a strong matrix where geographic leadership and vertical leadership work together.
Q: How do you see the role of India evolving in the global clinical development landscape?
A: The future is already here, with Indian biopharma and diagnostics companies rapidly advancing their R&D efforts. As these innovations reach the clinical stage, we will see more globalization of clinical research, with global companies conducting trials in India and the APAC region and vice versa.
