Entering the clinical research industry can seem daunting with all the components and complexities that make up a trial. The contributions of young professionals can often bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. This summer, Advanced Clinical had the pleasure of welcoming 11 interns, including Eve Geschiere, marketing intern. In this interview, Eve shares her motivations, experiences and the invaluable lessons she has garnered during her time at Advanced Clinical, providing insights that could inspire many aspiring clinical research professionals.

Q: What motivated you to pursue an internship at a clinical research company, or more specifically, what drew you to Advanced Clinical?

A: I have always had an interest in the pharmaceutical and medical industry. I even thought about studying medicine before starting college; but ultimately, I chose to study business. When I first heard about Advanced Clinical, and the clinical research industry, it was a really big interest to me because it combined both careers that I was interested in pursuing. I didn't really know anything about clinical research before, but I was really excited to have the opportunity to grow and learn about it. I had heard a lot of really great things about the culture at Advanced Clinical, and for me that was super important because I wanted to be somewhere where I was able to ask questions and feel a part of the team, not just another number. Advanced Clinical really fit that image for me.

Q: Can you describe your overall experience in your role as an intern at Advanced Clinical?

A: I have had a great internship experience here. I've had the opportunity to grow professionally. There's been so many intern workshops that they've put on, like building up your LinkedIn profile, that have been helpful. I've developed a lot of skills as well, such as time management and project management. During my internship, I’ve been exposed to different departments as well, from feasibility to marketing and sales. I’ve really had the chance to see what area aligns most with me and my career. Also, everyone at Advanced Clinical is always so happy to help, and they want to see you grow and succeed. I’ve had a lot of great mentorship and advice from the people at Advanced Clinical, and it’s been extremely helpful as I try to find the right career path for me.

Q: Can you share a memorable experience or a project you’ve worked on during your internship that had a significant impact on your learning and development?

A: This summer I've been working on an international marketing project, looking at regulations and different marketing techniques in countries that we work in. I've been coming up campaign ideas for different regions too. I think it's been really cool to put everything that I've learned in the classroom into practice, and I've been learning so much.

Q: What have been the benefits of having an internship at Advanced Clinical?

A: The main benefits have been the flexibility, the culture, and the people in the company. Also, the knowledge and networking skills I’ve gained from this company will be instrumental in my future career. I've been able to push myself out of my comfort zone and learn things that I wouldn't typically learn in a classroom environment. Going back to the people though, they are just amazing! They've made this entire internship probably 10 times better than I originally thought it would be.

Q: Do you have any advice for other students or aspiring professionals who are considering an internship in clinical research?

A: I think the biggest piece of advice would be to be curious, which is something I’ve been told multiple times in my internship. The clinical research industry is very complex with so many parts that go into a study and lots of jargon to pick up on. So, I think if you're curious, and you aren’t afraid to ask questions about something you don’t know it only helps you out more. Taking time to research the company and industry can also help prepare you before you even start.
